Excited to be a part of this project! We have been involved with this project since it's infancy and are happy to help it continue to move forward.

NEWBERRY — The City of Newberry celebrated World Tennis Day (March 6) with the groundbreaking of the Newberry Tennis Complex at Oakland Park.

“Today is World Tennis day, it is being celebrated around the world, so we are going ahead and doing something exciting in Newberry,” Mayor Foster Senn said.

The Oakland Tennis Complex will have six hard courts and three clay courts as well as a small pro shop and tennis pro office. The complex will be located next to Oakland Mill apartments and will be the new home for Newberry College tennis and City of Newberry recreational tennis programs.

“This will be a joint facility with the college, not only will our community benefit from this new facility, but the college will also be using it for their home courts,” City Manager Matt DeWitt said.

Scott Sawyer, director of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, said that the contract on the facility calls for 200 days, and said that means that it will be completed by roughly mid to late September. He said hopefully they can have a ribbon cutting on Oct. 2.

"Tad and his team performed beyond expectations when asked to perform a survey of a 6 acre, heavily wooded lot. The team cleared paths to access the property line and performed excessive marking at my request."   -- Duane Twining, PE at SCANA
